1961 — a home in Kebayoran
In September 1961, Kebayoran Baptist Church began in the home of Mr and Mrs Stockwell Sears, pioneer Southern Baptist missionaries in Indonesia.
1963 — thirteen signatures
Two years later, on 1 September 1963, the small group organised themselves into a church. This is the statement they signed:
Acting, as we believe, under the leading of God’s Holy Spirit we, the undersigned baptized believers, hereby covenant together to organize as a church bearing the name Kebayoran Baptist Church.
Thirteen forward-looking souls signed that document by faith. An Indonesian congregation was started under the name Gereja Baptis Kebayoran, and the two were distinguished as the English Language Church and the Indonesian congregation.
Since then
Although JIBC has moved on several occasions since that date, it has stood for salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and for world evangelism. A number of pastors have preached from its pulpit, and many souls have been saved and baptized.
2014 — Kemang
In 2014 JIBC rented its present facilities in the South Jakarta area of Kemang. We are located at Gedung Kemang 7, Lantai 4, Jl. Kemang Raya No. 7 RT.013/RW.01, Kecamatan Mampang Prapatan, Kelurahan Bangka, Jakarta Selatan, 12730.
The Lord continues to bless this local fellowship of believers as we seek to minister in the name of Christ to the English-speaking community, both expatriates and locals.
Looking forward
By faith, we believe that God has had, and will continue to have, a place for this church in His kingdom’s work. Let us commit ourselves to continue steadfastly, assured of God’s purpose and presence and power in our midst.
